Harrogate Post Office

The Post Office has announced sweeping plans for changes to how it provides services in Harrogate.  These plans include selling their Cambridge Road building and re-opening the post office as a franchise based in WHSmiths on Cambridge Street.

The Post Office claim that the same services and products will be available under the new arrangements as are available now and that the number of counters will reflect the forecast customer requirements.  They expect that the changes will take place before the end of 2019 but, crucially, state that they are subject to public consultation.

Mr Jones is taking the fight to keep our current level of service in a stand alone post office to the Minister responsible for the Post Office and wants to know what you think of the proposals.  You can let Andrew know your views by filling in the form below.

Andrew commented: “This does not feel like a forward step to me.  It feels like our post office is to be downgraded from a Crown Post Office to something very different and potentially much smaller.  Already certain passport services look likely to be discontinued.  What else might be unavailable?  We just don’t know but a downgraded, smaller post office isn’t what I want to see for Harrogate.

“The Post Office have told me that any proposed changes would be subject to a public consultation with public meetings.  Once we have dates for these I will ensure that the public are kept informed.  In the mean time it would be useful to know people’s initial thoughts on the proposal at this early stage.”
